Norway’s tourism agency launched an online campaign showcasing notable public toilets amid fjords, waterfalls and mountains after US President Donald Trump reportedly said at a campaign meeting in Michigan that Norway had become a “shitland” and that he did not want migrants from Norway because he had not received the Nobel Peace Prize. The campaign used playful language, including the slogan “Norway makes shithouses great again!”, to present the country’s toilets positively.
The featured sites included the toilet at the Stegastein viewpoint, facilities at Flesefossen waterfall along the Ryfylke tourist route and a gold-colored toilet building on Senja. The campaign was linked to material previously collected for World Toilet Day. Visit Norway’s head of social media, Evgenia Egorova, said the response had been overwhelmingly positive.
