Noordoostpolder seeks alternatives for housing migrant workers
◆1 source
The municipality of Noordoostpolder is looking for alternatives to plans for housing 600 migrant workers near Emmeloord. Two proposals, each for 300 workers at farmyards on the Randweg and Urkerweg, cannot proceed for now because they do not comply with Flevoland’s spatial-planning rules. The plans have not been formally rejected and were still in the feasibility phase.
Flevoland is concerned about the expansion of the Randweg site, the creation of a new farmyard at the Urkerweg site, road safety, accessibility and the impact on the open landscape and agricultural character of Noordoostpolder. The municipality is discussing other locations and possible adjustments to the plans with the province, while revising its policy on migrant-worker housing near Emmeloord.
