No fireworks show at New Year in Aalsmeer after no applications

Aalsmeer will not have a fireworks show at the coming New Year because no local association applied to organise one. The municipality had planned to grant exemptions for shows at the land tongue at Surf Island and at the ice rink in Kudelstaart, but received no applications before the deadline.

Setting off fireworks is prohibited nationwide, although municipalities can issue exemptions for local associations. Some other North Holland municipalities have also decided not to grant exemptions, while professional fireworks shows are still planned in a small number of municipalities, including Alkmaar and Muiderberg. Amsterdam is holding a laser and light show instead.
