Amsterdam-East and the police are introducing measures around the Molukkenstraat–Insulindeweg intersection ahead of the New Year period, following unrest there during the previous turn of the year. From 23:45, heavy fireworks were thrown at police officers and police carried out charges, according to district director Emre Ünver.
Concrete blocks will be placed in the side streets of Haroekoestraat, Riouwstraat, Halmaheirastraat and Surabayastraat to restrict traffic by scooters, fatbikes and motorcycles. Extra lighting will be installed to improve camera surveillance. Police officers and enforcement staff will check for loose objects that could be thrown; Christmas trees will not be collected and separate trees will be removed. Businesses have also been asked temporarily not to sell petrol, white spirit, methylated spirits gel or bioethanol.
