Leak on Nautilus in Eemshaven
◆8 sources
The 73-metre cargo ship Nautilus took on water while moored in the Juliana harbour in Eemshaven and listed, creating a risk that it could capsize or sink. Emergency services, divers and two tugboats worked to stabilise the vessel and pump out water. The crew had left the ship; one report said it was carrying components for offshore wind turbines. The water entered through a hole in the hull near the engine room. Divers inspected the underside of the ship and sealed the leak. The vessel stopped taking on water and rose again, and the danger of it sinking has passed. The cause and size of the hole were not known.
