The VVD said the comments were inappropriate and demanded an apology. The minister did not apologise. One report also described VVD MP Jurgen Nobel as challenging her over her comments on priority for status holders in social housing.

The cabinet plans to introduce a tax on actual returns from savings, investments and second homes in Box 3 from 2028, including taxation of investment gains when assets are sold. It withdrew proposals that would have made smaller savers and investors contribute to financing the change after they lacked support in the House of Representatives. The change leaves a multibillion-euro budget gap, and the cabinet is seeking alternatives with opposition parties.
