The E25 motorway towards Luxembourg was closed between Sprimont and Aywaille, about 25 kilometres south of Liège, after a crash involving three cars. One vehicle reportedly overturned. A driver involved in the crash remained in his car, said he was armed and threatened to blow it up.

Police and emergency services set up a security perimeter, began negotiations and deployed a bomb squad. Occupants of about 50 vehicles were evacuated, with around 100 people taken to a diversion area, while vehicles were removed and traffic rerouted. One report identified the man as a police officer; the others did not.
