Motion to investigate closure of three goat farms in Flevoland rejected

A motion from the Party for Animals and the SP to investigate whether three existing goat farms in Ens, Nagele and Rutten could be required to stop operating was rejected by the Noordoostpolder municipal council by 35 votes to three. The parties argued that the farms are within two kilometres of residential areas, which they described as a safe distance between goat farms and homes.

New goat farms are currently prohibited because of reported Q-fever health risks, while the national government is preparing legislation. The council wants to await national measures. During the session, BBB said that studies beyond those by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment and the Health Council should also be considered. Deputy Müller acknowledged the point but said this did not mean she distrusted the RIVM study.
