NSC members’ meeting and board resignation

15 sources

NSC’s members’ meeting in Breda ended with the resignation of the entire party board after a dispute with members over the agenda and whether critical motions would be put to a vote. Acting chairman Ronald de Bruin said the situation was no longer workable. The board also announced that NSC will not contest next year’s provincial elections, saying it had found insufficient support and capacity in all provinces. Independent MP Mona Keijzer addressed the meeting at the board’s invitation, prompting many attendees to leave the room, according to reports. Keijzer said she wanted conservatives to find one another and indicated that no concrete cooperation was in prospect. The meeting followed the departure of NSC’s last elected representative, MEP Dirk Gotink, who left the party over its rapprochement with Keijzer and her Project2029 movement. A single report said former MPs Ilse Saris and Harm Holman also cancelled their memberships over Keijzer’s invitation.

Political developments discussed in the Hammering podcast

1 source

Across a series of episodes, political commentator Wouter de Winther and presenter Pim Sedee discussed Dutch budget plans, the role of the right-wing opposition and the difficult cooperation between the minority cabinet and opposition parties. They also addressed the tax plan and warned that public reversals after behind-the-scenes agreements could contribute to a political crisis. Later episodes covered developments around the budget and the cabinet’s position on Donald Trump. The episodes also focused on unrest within the VVD and criticism of party leader Dilan Yeşilgöz, the possibility of a renewed leadership contest, and Joost Eerdmans’s tone and attitude. Other subjects included Prime Minister Rob Jetten’s use of artificial intelligence in communications, reactions to Yeşilgöz describing Russia as an enemy during a parliamentary debate, Mona Keijzer’s NSC visit and political move, and the vulnerability of Deputy Minister Boekholt O’Sullivan when improvising. The latest episode discussed what was described as a change in tone from Eerdmans.
