Milwaukee Brewers move within one win of World Series title

The Milwaukee Brewers moved within one victory of winning the World Series after a decisive win over the Tampa Bay Rays. If they secure the title, it would be the first championship in the 57-year history of the club. The team previously reached the World Series in 1982, when it lost to the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Brewers are managed by Pat Murphy, who previously led the Dutch national baseball team to European Championship titles in 1987 and 2000, including the Netherlands’ historic Olympic victory over Cuba in Sydney. Former player and current Feyenoord director Robert Eenhoorn described Murphy as a motivating and distinctive coach. Milwaukee’s approach has emphasized contact hitting, reaching base and aggressive baserunning, while Murphy has been noted for an unconventional coaching style.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Florida in the third game of the World Series, taking a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Milwaukee scored eight runs with two outs in the fifth inning to turn a 2-0 lead into a 10-0 advantage; one report said this was the most runs scored in a World Series inning after two outs. The Rays later scored their only run. Milwaukee had previously won the opening two games at home, 3-2 and 5-4. The Brewers, who have never won the World Series, need one more victory for the title, while Tampa Bay must win four straight games to overturn the series. Tampa Bay’s roster includes Dutch international Richie Palacios, and Milwaukee is managed by former Netherlands national team coach Pat Murphy.
