Mientje 162, a cow at Willem van den Berg’s dairy farm on Zuiderweg in Ezinge, tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also known as mad cow disease. She was 4.5 years old when she died and was identified in the statistics as the 45th BSE case in the Netherlands.
The farm had to say goodbye to another apparently healthy animal during what was described as a difficult month for the livestock operation.
