Middelburg considers permanent or temporary camera surveillance

Mayor Yvonne van Mastrigt wants to discuss camera surveillance with the Middelburg City Council. The discussion concerns whether cameras should remain permanently in certain places or be installed temporarily after periods of unrest or serious incidents. The council is expected to weigh privacy, costs, security and the size of any area covered by cameras.

Camera surveillance is also being discussed in an increasing number of municipalities in Zeeland, but no decision on Middelburg’s approach has been reported.
