Matheo Boxum of Emmeloord finished 20th at the European Checkers Championships in Beilen and did not qualify for the World Championships. He had needed to finish among the two highest-placed Dutch players to secure a place. Boxum lost a game early in the tournament but recovered, although the gap with the leaders remained too large. Dutch player Jitse Slump won the European title.

The European Rapid and Blitz Championships are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Boxum finished third at the World Blitz Championships earlier this year.
