The Marker Museum is seeking to preserve the historic viewing house of Sijtje Boes, which is reportedly deteriorating. Boes helped turn Marken into an internationally known tourist destination, attracted members of the Dutch royal family and promoted the village internationally while defying municipal rules. She was described as a marketing visionary in traditional dress and was once said to have been the most photographed woman in the Netherlands after Queen Juliana.
