Marc Márquez could secure a tenth world title in Qatar

Marc Márquez could have his first opportunity to clinch the MotoGP world championship during the race weekend in Qatar. If he succeeds, the 33-year-old Spaniard would win his tenth world title and move ahead of Valentino Rossi among living riders with that status.

Dutch riders Collin Veijer and Zonta van den Goorbergh, who are part of Márquez's programme this season, were presented as witnessing the possible milestone. Van den Goorbergh said Márquez had always been his idol, while both riders regarded the prospect as special to see.

United States Grand Prix in Austin

14 sources

Kimi Antonelli won the United States Grand Prix in Austin for Mercedes, ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Antonelli started from pole position, while Verstappen started second but finished third after an aggressive tyre strategy and car problems; Leclerc passed him late in the race on fresher tyres. Verstappen said afterwards that he lacked the pace to fight for victory. Antonelli met the requirement of winning to secure the Formula 1 title in Austin, but George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished too high for the championship to be decided. Antonelli can secure his first title at the next race in Mexico; one report said ninth place would be enough.
