An older man fell about three metres into the pit of an underground waste container on Kloklaan in Den Bosch on Monday morning. The container had been lifted for emptying when a malfunction affected the crane, according to one report; another reported that the container's fall protection may not have worked properly.

Firefighters rescued the man after he had been in the pit for more than half an hour. He suffered a head injury and was taken to the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital in Tilburg. A trauma helicopter was also called to the adjacent Hooghe Clock residential care complex.
