The Michiel de Ruyter Bridge on Urk remained open after a malfunction occurred while it was closing, disrupting both road traffic and shipping. The province of Flevoland expected the problem to last several hours and said work was under way to resolve it. The cause was not clear. Motorists could take detours via the Arie de Witbrug and the bridge over the lock.

The bridge, which connects Urk’s industrial area and Zeeheldenwijk with the rest of the town, has experienced malfunctions before, including one in July when it could not close completely.
