Lith's oldest house, a national monument dating from 1686 on the Lithse Dijk, has been put up for sale for €1.295 million. The 324-square-metre house stands on a plot of 1,184 square metres and has views over the Meuse, fireplaces, a vault and historic interior features.
The house was restored over 37 years by Huub and his wife. Village doctor Jacob Wiegersma moved there in 1889, and his son Hendrik was born there two years later. Hendrik later became a doctor in Deurne and a painter known as the “Wonder Doctor” of Brabant; his life and family reportedly inspired a character in Antoon Coolen’s novel *Dorp aan de rivier*. Huub is selling because the house is too large for him following his wife’s death three years ago, and he is moving to a home next to his daughter.
