Lelystad plans a network of 13 numbered cycling routes

Lelystad plans to number 13 main cycling routes to make the city’s existing cycle paths easier to follow. The routes include connections such as Route 1 from the Dronterweg through the city centre to the Oostvaardersdijk, and Route 6 from Zuigerplasbos via Lelystad Centrum station to Palazzo. The plan does not involve building new cycle paths.
New signs will show destinations along the routes, including the next, an intermediate or final destination, and a nearby town or village. The municipality hopes the numbered routes will improve orientation and make bridges and tunnels easier for cyclists to find. Online surveys and conversations at markets indicated that the cycling network can sometimes be difficult to navigate.
