Lelystad court handled two criminal cases involving Almere residents

A 23-year-old man from Algeria, identified as A.A., was suspected of assaulting two underage girls in Almere on September 19 and of masturbating in public at the same location while looking at a police officer. At an introductory hearing in Lelystad, he said through an interpreter that he had been under the influence and would not have acted that way if he had been conscious. The prosecutor said the toxicology test did not show that. The court kept him in custody because of fears that he could reoffend. The substance of the case is scheduled to be heard on November 18.

In a separate case, the Lelystad court postponed a verdict involving 55-year-old Almere resident O.A., who is accused of raping a woman on October 17, 2025, and using violence. The court said it needed more information and wants to hear the woman again, including about parts of her statement and points to be compared with O.A.’s account. The prosecution sought a 40-month sentence; O.A. denied the accusations. No new date for further proceedings had been announced.
