Minister Vincent Karremans said Lelystad Airport may not need a nature permit if the cabinet succeeds in introducing a lower legal calculation method for nitrogen. He said the airport’s nitrogen deposition remains below the critical limit. The airport has been seeking a permit for more than six years, but the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature has not yet reached a conclusion on the nitrogen issue. The cabinet is aiming to open Lelystad Airport to commercial holiday flights in October 2027. The stated conditions include an amended airport decision, operational readiness, no additional low flight routes and an approved nature permit.
