KNMI introduces more local weather warnings
◆2 sources
The KNMI began issuing weather warnings for areas smaller than provinces, using map-drawn zones rather than provincial or municipal boundaries. The change applies to warnings for hazards including storms, fog, heat, slippery conditions and thunderstorms, with the aim of making alerts more relevant to local conditions.
The warning maps are available online and in the KNMI app, where users can zoom in or search for their location. Organisations can download the data for their own maps or applications. The change followed a legal amendment that has allowed the KNMI to issue sub-provincial warnings since 20 May.
