KLM Airbus A330 dismantled for spare parts
◆1 source
A 21-year-old KLM Airbus A330 was being dismantled at Twente Airport after being sold to Aircraft End-of-Life Solutions (AELS). The company strips the aircraft and sells usable parts worldwide, while KLM keeps the engines and some components for its remaining A330 fleet, which consists of nine aircraft with 18 engines. The A330 is making way for the newer Airbus A350.
The dismantling company said demand for aircraft parts had risen sharply since the coronavirus crisis. Delayed or cancelled new-aircraft orders have kept older planes in service longer, increasing maintenance needs and demand for replacement parts.
