King Willem-Alexander opens potato laboratory in Bant

King Willem-Alexander opened Agrico’s new laboratory in Bant, where new potato varieties are being developed and research is being conducted into disease resistance, sustainable cultivation and plant health. He was due to tour the building and speak with researchers and other staff about the importance of potato breeding.

Agrico said the laboratory uses DNA research to assess the properties of potatoes, including their suitability for making fries and their resistance to disease. The company also has a kitchen in Bant for testing new varieties for processing into chips, fries and other potato products. The king’s visit coincided with Agrico’s annual variety show for growers and customers.
