Kees Smit was reportedly injured during the warm-up of the Netherlands under-21 team before the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Former AZ attacker Ernest Poku replaced him, and the severity of Smit’s injury remains unclear. He was due to return to AZ ahead of next Saturday’s top-flight match against Feyenoord. AZ began preparing for that match with Ro-Zangelo Daal and Wouter Goes in training. Both players had left the Netherlands under-21 camp early because of minor complaints. The under-21 team needed to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina to retain second place in its group and qualify for the playoffs.
