Judi Dench says vision loss has ended her acting career

British actress Judi Dench, 91, said she can no longer act or read because of age-related macular degeneration, which was diagnosed in 2012. She said her vision has deteriorated to the point that she sees almost nothing and has difficulty recognizing faces, making it increasingly hard to work on film sets and memorize lines.

Dench continues to appear in public and wants to keep talking about her life on the radio despite her limited vision. She had an acting career spanning more than 70 years and was known internationally for playing M in eight James Bond films. She won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love and received seven further Oscar nominations.
