Johan Plat leads Cambuur’s revival with Henk de Jong’s support

SC Cambuur reportedly recovered from four successive defeats at the start of the Eredivisie season and went seven matches unbeaten, leaving the promoted Leeuwarden club ninth after 11 rounds. Head coach Johan Plat, 39, said he had quickly established a close working relationship with club icon Henk de Jong, who stepped back from the main coaching role after guiding Cambuur to promotion and now supports Plat in a free role.

Plat said he wanted Cambuur to play attacking football, create chances and improve its players. De Jong praised Plat for remaining calm after the poor start and for pushing the team to play further forward. Cambuur had 15 points at that stage, while Plat said there was still much work to do. Supporters who continue to hold De Jong in high regard had also embraced Plat and his style of play, according to the two coaches.

The Austrian forward had not scored in 13 appearances in the previous season and had planned to leave in the summer, but no transfer materialised.
