Speed skater Joep Wennemars said he is not yet fully fit after a groin injury last summer. The 24-year-old Team Essent skater said his body had needed a complete reset and that he had been more unhappy than ever during that period. Wennemars said he does not yet know how well he will skate at the first competition of the season at the end of October, or whether he will be able to skate fast then. He said he is taking a careful approach because his body is his capital.
