Jessica Schilder was not among the three finalists for European female athlete of the year. The finalists were Swiss 800-metre runner Audrey Werro, British sprinter Amy Hunt and Italian long-distance runner Nadia Battocletti. Schilder remained on the longlist of ten athletes. She won the European shot put title for the third consecutive time this year and became the first woman in 14 years to throw beyond 21 metres. Femke Bol, last year's winner for the third time, was not among this year's final ten after moving from the 400-metre hurdles to the 800 metres. Werro has reportedly beaten Bol in all of their meetings this year and won the European Championships in Birmingham.
