30th Amsterdam Dance Event

11 sources

The 30th Amsterdam Dance Event began in Amsterdam, bringing electronic-music performances, industry meetings and cultural programming to venues across the city and in Halfweg. What began as a networking gathering for several hundred dance-industry professionals has grown into an event spanning more than 300 locations, with reports giving differing totals of 1,200 or 1,300 events and 3,500 or 3,600 artists. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected; one report put the annual limit at 600,000 visitors, while another projected more than 400,000 for this edition. Alongside club events, the programme includes performances and installations in cultural institutions, activities in care homes and a DJ event on the ferry between Central Station and NDSM. The Rijksmuseum is hosting techno pioneer Jeff Mills’s interpretation of De Nachtwacht, while ballet, dance and hip-hop are being presented at the Gashouder. Organisers say the aim is not to increase visitor numbers but to involve more communities in ADE.
