Jan Peters, 72, was presented as a favourite at the Johan Cruijff ArenA and said that Ajax is still somewhat searching. Peters made his name by helping NEC win the Dutch title in 1975, while his national title in 1981 and KNVB Cup victories in 1978, 1981 and 1982 established him at AZ. The 31-time Netherlands international also played for Atalanta Bergamo in the 1985–86 season.
