Jacky Ghijsen, 46, was reported to have had cancer several times as a child, teenager and adult and to have been told she would not live much longer. Treatments left her without an eye, part of her upper jaw, her palate and teeth, and caused extensive facial scarring. She had been ashamed of the scars but said she no longer wanted to hide them, emphasizing that she was still alive and wanted to show herself.
