Ivano van Erp, 21, retired from motocross after a crash during the Dutch MX Nationals in Oss in March that nearly killed him. He said the sport is now too dangerous for him and that ending his career is best for his body and health.

Van Erp suffered a torn aorta near his heart and fractures to his shoulder, shoulder blade and sternum. Doctors saved his life after hours of surgery and placed a stent; he then spent months recovering.
