Senior Iranian officials said Tehran had deliberately prolonged negotiations with the United States to politically weaken President Donald Trump ahead of the November congressional elections. They also said Iran does not trust the United States to honour any agreement reached to end the war.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran is prepared to resolve the war with the United States diplomatically. He said Tehran is open to this if it receives clear indications that Washington is willing to build confidence and seek a fair solution.
