Execution of three men over protests in Karaj

Iran executed Hassan Dioband, Hamid Kazemi and Reza Zanganeh for their alleged role in anti-government protests in Karaj, west of Tehran, in January. Iranian authorities said they used firearms, grenades and Molotov cocktails, set public facilities on fire and damaged an electricity station, causing power cuts in some areas. They were also accused of acting on orders from Israel and the United States. Their sentences had been upheld by Iran's Supreme Court, and their assets were confiscated.

Eight other men received prison sentences of five to 10 years in connection with the same events. A later report described the executions as having taken place on Sunday.
