Sixty-eight dead mallards were found dumped in nature in the Kapellen-Brasschaat area of Belgium's Antwerp province in early October. Although disease was initially suspected, examinations of three birds found broken wings, including three wing fractures, a broken neck and gunshot wounds; X-rays showed that all three had multiple pellets in their bodies.
