Iga Świątek withdraws from Ningbo Open

Iga Świątek withdrew from the WTA tournament in Ningbo, China, because of a left-femur injury. The injury had also troubled the Polish player at the Wuhan tournament the previous week, where she lost in the semi-finals to compatriot Maja Chwalińska.

Her withdrawal ended her chance of qualifying for next month’s WTA Finals in Indian Wells. Świątek needed to reach the quarter-finals in Ningbo to qualify.

Alejandro Davidovich won the Shanghai Masters after defeating fellow Spaniard Rafael Jódar 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the final. The 27-year-old, ranked 26th, recovered after losing the first set and overcame a break in the third. He had lost his previous five finals, but won all three finals he played in 2026. Davidovich was reported to be the first Spaniard to win the Shanghai tournament, which was first held in 2009; Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal had previously failed to win it. Maja Chwalinska won the women’s WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, beating Britain’s Sonay Kartal 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. The 22nd-ranked Pole claimed her first title after Kartal, who had returned in late September following a six-month absence because of a back injury, initially took control before tiring. Chwalinska secured the match at her third match point. She had lost the French Open final to Mirra Andreyeva in June.
