Hen and Lineke Welles had their house lifted to protect it from high water on the Meuse. A water expert said the special procedure could offer a solution in more places in the Netherlands, warning that some areas could otherwise become uninhabitable in 30 to 40 years.

The couple said they did not want to leave their home for financial gain.
