Fire at hotel on Johan Cruijff Boulevard

A fire at a hotel on Amsterdam's Johan Cruijff Boulevard led to the evacuation of about 140 guests. Emergency services received the first report at 23:45 and scaled up the response because of the volume of calls and heavy smoke. Firefighters brought the blaze under control quickly and searched the building several times to ensure everyone had left.
Four people inhaled smoke and two were taken to hospital for further checks. The evacuated guests were first received at the departure hall of station Bijlmer ArenA and were later accommodated in nearby hotels. The cause is under investigation; the fire may have started while an electrical device was being charged in a hotel room.
