Hollands Kroon halted tiny house project in Nieuwe Niedorp

The municipality of Hollands Kroon halted a planned tiny house project on the Oosterweg in Nieuwe Niedorp after nine years of discussions with 15 prospective residents. The project, initiated by the municipality in 2017, envisaged a largely self-sufficient residential park on municipal land. The municipality said it now wanted to build more homes at the site because of the housing shortage, and that earlier council decisions to develop the plan had not guaranteed its realisation.
One of the prospective residents, Harry Molenaar, had spent four years of his spare time building his own tiny house. The municipality said there was currently no alternative plan or location, but that it remained open to innovative housing projects if they did not use municipal land or require municipal funding. The prospective residents hope to find another location.
