Hilversum and Wijdemeren prepare for merged municipal charges
◆1 source
Hilversum presented a budget for the year after its planned merger with Wijdemeren on 1 January. Homeowners in present-day Wijdemeren are set to pay a substantially lower property tax rate: at an average WOZ value of €747,000, the saving is expected to be about €330. Hilversum homeowners will pay about €50 more on average, an increase the alderman for finance attributed to inflation rather than the merger. Business owners in Wijdemeren, however, are expected to pay more than a third extra in property tax. The sewage charge will remain higher in present-day Wijdemeren until 2029, after which the rates must be equalised.
The merged municipality is expected to receive nearly €4 million in available funds next year and an additional €5.5 million annually from the national government. It has not yet decided whether that money will be used to reduce charges. Paid parking is not planned for the villages of Wijdemeren, although parking fines will rise to more than €84 and enforcement will increase. Residents will elect the council of the new municipality on 18 November; the new council is due to decide on the budget and property taxes on 4 January.
