19 sources

Christine Lagarde is due to leave the presidency of the European Central Bank on 7 February, before her term was scheduled to end in October 2027. The succession process began after her announcement. The Netherlands nominated former De Nederlandsche Bank president Klaas Knot, while Spain nominated former Banco de España governor Pablo Hernández de Cos. After the deadline for nominations closed, they were the only candidates. A decision on Lagarde’s successor is expected in mid-December.
