Heineken ordered to compensate Greek brewer MTB

The Amsterdam District Court ordered Heineken and its subsidiary Athenian Breweries (AB) to pay Greek brewer MTB €111.2 million in compensation. The amount includes €43 million in damages and €68 million in interest.

The ruling followed a finding by the Greek competition authority that AB had abused its dominant position in Greece’s beer market for years, including by offering supermarkets bonuses for exclusively selling Heineken brands. Heineken was held liable as AB’s parent company and is appealing the decision.
