During ADE, visitors were urged to protect their hearing from loud techno music and prolonged exposure to noise in clubs. Paul Merkus, an ear, nose and throat specialist at Amsterdam UMC, said that all earplugs are better than none and that hearing damage can occur after 20 minutes without earplugs.
