The Groningen court called on benefit agencies and politicians to find a solution for people who receive unexpected tax bills after back payments of benefits. The appeal followed a case involving a woman who received a tax bill of several hundred euros after a back payment from UWV.

The court said similar problems involving benefit back payments occur more often.
