GGD explains childhood vaccinations at Amsterdam information points

The Amsterdam GGD is using mobile information points in neighbourhoods, including Square ’40-’45 in Nieuw-West, to answer questions from parents and other residents about childhood vaccinations. Young people and parents of eligible children are due to receive another vaccination invitation this autumn. The vaccinations protect against 14 serious infectious diseases, including whooping cough, measles and polio, although some parents have questions about side effects, ingredients and the continued need for vaccination.

Lindeman of the GGD said vaccination teaches the body to recognise a virus or bacterium so it can respond more effectively when exposed to the actual pathogen. Lindeman also said that babies have been vaccinated against respiratory syncytial (RS) virus since 2025 and that hospitalisations of babies with the virus have been falling.
