Gerben Wiersma, 49, is returning to the World Championships in Rotterdam as national coach of the German women’s gymnastics team. He was a national coach at the championships in the city 16 years ago. In the intervening years, he experienced major successes and a serious setback, as well as an emotional connection with a gymnast who affected him deeply.
