Funding for northern Zuidasdok section put on hold
◆1 source
The cabinet was reported to have put funding for the construction of the northern section of the Zuidasdok on hold as it prioritizes maintenance of existing bridges, locks, roads and other infrastructure. The plans allocate €16 billion for such work in the coming years, while 29 planned projects, including the northern Zuidasdok section, are not proceeding for the time being. The project’s spokesperson called the decision very disappointing, while its consequences for the northern construction work remain unclear.
Construction of the southern section is to continue for now, subject to the possible arrival of an additional platform needed for international trains. The underground A10 section towards Utrecht is also continuing under the current plans, as the two traffic tunnels are separate. The total estimated cost of Zuidasdok is €5.4 billion, up from an earlier estimate of €4.3 billion.
