Former Gaza hostages describe the aftermath of captivity

Eliya Cohen, who was held in Gaza for 505 days, described spending much of his captivity in tunnels, often chained and sleeping on a hard floor. Three years after his abduction, he said the memories had resurfaced and that he had lost part of himself that day. In a separate account, Maxim Harkin, 37, said he could never again be the person he was before 6 October. Harkin was among the last group of hostages released from Gaza under an agreement between Israel and Hamas, and said that returning to his family did not erase his memories of captivity.
