A 19-year-old British forensic science student, Benjamin Day, confessed to killing a 24-year-old woman in a rented room in Tividale near Birmingham, according to the prosecution. Prosecutors said Day was obsessed with the television series Dexter and had arranged the room after one depicted in the series. He allegedly contacted the woman, described as a sex worker, using a disposable phone and covered the room with plastic sheeting. He also prepared a list of items including an apron and cleaning products. Day stabbed the woman 78 times and wanted to cut up her body, but stopped after injuring himself. He then left the property and called emergency services seeking medical help for himself. Police noticed inconsistencies in his account, and the landlord later also contacted police.
